Okay, all this COVID-19 stuff is far outside my bailiwick. But, amid all of the seemingly contradictatory data regarding the COVID-19 virus, mutation to multiple strains with varying degrees of impact on humans does not seem to me to be outside the realm of a possibly reasonable explanation.

Every flu strain is different every year. Maybe corona will be similar...probably.
The true death rate of this new virus is completely unknown yet, because hardly anyone has been tested.
It is starting to look like the true death rate from Corona is much smaller than expected. More like a very bad flu season. Though maybe slightly more deadly than flu for the elderly or those in high-risk groups. Though we don't know for sure until all the data and testing is done.
