Is there a strategy to these tournaments or do you just make the right moves as you would in normal play. I am thinking just going for the royal with every move?

I have played in several and will be doing so again soon. Strategy is to be more aggressive for the big hits going into the last round and often next to last round. Royals are not that common in VP tourneys as the machines cannot be set looser, at least not the ones I play on.
It is a tourney so anything goes to place in the money.

Thanks Ouchez. By more aggressive you mean not playing perfect, but chasing 4 of a kind. Example would be not keeping 2 diff. face cards and choosing one?
Also can you run your balance to zero and be out?
i am going to Vegas soon and was invited to play in a good invitational at no charge and want to do well.
No, it is my understanding that double up wagers do not count as "coin in" for comp purposes. Also for freeplay, you are wagering your "winnings" which have already been converted to cashable money from the freeplay so unfortunately this will not provide you a house edge free way to convert freeplay to cashable credits.
