Do you carry any book with you on your trips ?

    Hey peeps,

I was scrolling through the pages of BJA3 on my couch and I was wondering to myself...

Is anyone of you carrying books on blackjack trips ?

    (Multiple days trips obviously)

If so, which books do you take ?

Has anyone scanned the books so you can have it on your phone or iPad ? (in case you can't get a e-book version)

Have you ever been in a doubt during a trip, and felt like having a certain book with you could have helped ?

I recall Ken Uston (well, it was another century, but still, the whole idea is there..) wrote that he was playing in Korea where a dealer checked her holecard while marking a little the corner, and he took a tremendous advantage out of it, but to know how, he had to isolate into his hotel room and check in Thorp or Wong's book to get the good strategy for this precise happening. Without that, he probably would have missed a big opportunity to make money.

So, what's your thoughts on this ?

    Cheers
Wayne Gretzky once said that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Life’s too short for regrets.

i sometimes have bja3 with me. but keep in mind Uston was playing long before we had smart phones.
I've ran into a couple of situations there year where i wanted to check or double check something and was able to run to the bathroom pull out my phone and look it up.

Yeah it doesn't pop up that much but s18 vs dealer Ace. Not talking A7, thats a clear hit. But soft 18 with 3 or more cards v dealer ace it's always hard to remember which permutations are a hit and which are a stand. So i just stand if its a soft 18 with 3 or more cards and the dealer has an ace. It doesnt seem worth the effort to differentiate any further than that.

There are a lot of blackjack books on Kindle. I just checked Amazon and searched for Kindle blackjack books with four stars and up. I got 23 pages of books from Beat the Dealer to Synder's Big Book of Blackjack. A few non blackjack books showed up because blackjack was in their title.

Professional blackjack is good enough for any last minute reference. I also have the colour of blackjack.
Then there’s always your smartphones to keep a copy of key index.

I have the kindle app on my phone. Sometimes I'll also call a friend for help if I don't have the book I need on kindle. I bring my laptop with me too. I'll find stuff often where I have to crunch my own maths to figure out strategies and edges and having a computer with me is super useful. I only bring a physical book if I plan to have lots of downtime to read it, which is rare.

Hell no, but I'm always a bit paranoid and I'm usually in a comped casino room.

Once at a hotel NEAR a few casinos, the housekeeping staff asked curious questions. Either we were too loud or they were snoops.

I have a computer and/or iPad so I can buy and download anything I might need, but I prefer the phone-a-friend method if I need something.

I made color coded spreadsheets with all the numbers that fold into my wallet for the two 17 rules strategy, surrender, + betting scale. All from Wong. I sometimes review in the john, especially when I find “stand on all 17s”.
