He just want me to teach him the AP techniques like game selection, penetration, table condition, prefect basic strategy and card counting. I want to do this without letting the casino know that I know how to count cards. Our plan is not to play multiple deck games.
Most of this, you do on the kitchen table.

When you get to a casino, it should all be review.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Because they said they're not playing a multi-deck game. If it's a handheld game (as many SD/DD games are), many places do not allow players to discuss their hands or plays with others while the hand is live.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Explain the swings to him and the long run and all the rest of counting that doesn't involve. math. Then he should expect to have some bad experiences. You have to risk money to make money.

So your friend doesn't eat cards during high counts. I don't think it's suspicious for a player to drop out during part of the shoe.

Have him ask for a lammer for his spot(s) and hit the head or do something else for a short time.

I would give him a basic strategy card & tell him to memorize it, and I would tell him to read PBJ by Wong.
Then I would test him to find out if he is really interested or just wasting my time.
I would not go near the casino with him until he has proven himself.

In fact, the casino will probably think it is easy money because beginners always make mistakes. In a couple of sentences you can tell him what 90% of the basic strategy plays are. The soft hands get more complicated, but as they happen you can explain them. I have seen pit bosses and dealers try to explain soft doubles to beginners and most just don't get it. They think A5 is 16 and a good hand, and they stay even though given the correct advice.

Do not attempt to teach anything about card counting at the table. He has to master basic strategy first before ever thinking about card counting. I would have him play a weak spread like maybe 1 to 4 and signal him when to raise his bet. When I would play with my wife I would tap her knee with my knee as a signal to raise her bet. The harder the tap the bigger the bet and I would let her put out her bet before mine. Just how you do this could be worked out between you.
Yes, I could teach him basic strategy at the table. In my experience I think giving someone a basic strategy card and tell them to follow it will help them memorize basic strategy faster. In the same way that we take notes during class. Of course the teacher can give us a lecture but by us writing and taking notes during the lecture will help with memorize the material.
