How to show a friend how to play blackjack in a live casino?

One of my trusted friend request me to she her how to play blackjack in a live casino. He is aware that I know how to count cards. What I am stuck on is how do I show him how to play without showing to the casino that I count cards? Anybody know of any cover method that I can use?

Just go to a store you don't normally play at and have fun for a couple of hours playing only basic. Teach your friend b.s. over a couple of beers.

Just have your friend play basic until you get a high count and tell them to sit out when the count gets high.

Why sit out? If he sits out when you move your bet higher, would it not stand out more that you are counting? I let my ploppy friend flat bet, advise as regards basic strategy and in close situations such as 16 against 10 at neutral count, tell them to make a guess.

Teach her the basics on a kitchen table first.

That is, how to buy in ("don't put it in the circle"), basic strategy, signals for hit, stand, split, double, surrender, tipping - at least how to and what other people might do, what advisory calls to expect, and how to color up.

Doing it at the casino should all be review.
May the cards fall in your favor.

This. Probably even more important than the basic mechanics of the game or basic strategy is just the procedure and expectations.

Here's a short list off the top of my head, that isn't meant to be exhaustive:
-Don't touch your chips after your cards have come out
-Don't touch your cards in a shoe game
-When you double or split put your added chips beside, not on top of your bet
-Don't touch your chips until after the dealer has finished paying the whole hand (including double and splits)
    -Signal over over the felt
-Let the dealer color up your chips before you leave

Very sorry I should have made this post more clear. But thank you for anyone that has replied to my thread. My friend has already know the basic rules and procedure on how to play the game. He just want me to teach him the AP techniques like game selection, penetration, table condition, prefect basic strategy and card counting. I want to do this without letting the casino know that I know how to count cards. Our plan is not to play multiple deck games.

Seems like most of this can be done in one of your homes away from the casino. You can demonstrate most of that at the kitchen table, 6 decks of cards and a couple stacks of casino chips. After that you could take a walk through the casino and casually talk about the things that you demonstrated at home. If you sit and play, he would have to avoid AP questions until after the session.

I've discussed AP in the casino with my wife but we move to a private spot and look like we're talking sexy stuff... that might depend on how close you and your friend are. jk

Thank You for the reply but my friend is a male not female.

Thank you for the replies to this thread. I think this what I will do: I will go to shop an get couple of basic strategy cards. Tell him to follow the basic strategy card and keep a running count. But I couldn't find a count system that someone could master right away beside Speed Count. But I wouldn't recommend Speed Count.

But I am afraid he might bust out before our session is over and say card counting don't work.

I see no reason why you can't teach him basic strategy at the blackjack table. Casinos often give out free basic strategy cards so I don't see this to be a big deal. In fact, the casino will probably think it is easy money because beginners always make mistakes. In a couple of sentences you can tell him what 90% of the basic strategy plays are. The soft hands get more complicated, but as they happen you can explain them. I have seen pit bosses and dealers try to explain soft doubles to beginners and most just don't get it. They think A5 is 16 and a good hand, and they stay even though given the correct advice.

Do not attempt to teach anything about card counting at the table. He has to master basic strategy first before ever thinking about card counting. I would have him play a weak spread like maybe 1 to 4 and signal him when to raise his bet. When I would play with my wife I would tap her knee with my knee as a signal to raise her bet. The harder the tap the bigger the bet and I would let her put out her bet before mine. Just how you do this could be worked out between you.

This is where a firm understanding of the math comes in, particularly statistics. Having an understanding of standard deviation and the bell curve, as well as probability theory in general, will help make sure his confidence in counter doesn't completely disappear after a bad run.
