• Casino gives up on effort to replace tables with machines

Vernon's Lake City Casino is a small Canadian casino that replaced its tables with virtual dealer tables. Customers didn't like them. A took quite a while, but according to the local paper this morning, the casino has bowed to customer requests and is rehiring live dealers to start in eight days. This may be a small casino, but they are one of a dozen casinos owned by Gateway Casinos. Casinos would love to totally mechanize the gaming floor. Any demonstration of the utter stupidity of such an action is welcome.

Good luck trying to get your old customer base back once they have found new favorite haunts unless this is an isolated casino with no others to compete for business with.

Here's the stupidity of that equation. It's not like a dealer is busting out the payroll account for all it's worth or getting much more than many other various support personnel in a casino. Put two casinos near each other, one fully automated with nothing but those machines that mimic a table game. The other has live dealers... Which one will see more table game action? Which one will take down the lion's share of all table game action for that geographical location? Was it WORTH it to cut down on that payroll so you could make (OOPS!) LESS money. I wonder where are people's brains at with some bold and blatant management decisions (that are completely stupid and short-sighted) but perhaps it's a grand experiment to see if it would work, a valiant attempt at trying to sh*t up profits out of thin air from some grandiose idea on cutting down some of the payroll a little more. I think people that play tables games are going to gravitate to live dealers over an over-glorified slot machine that mimics a table game any day of the week... What a bone-headed idea that would only work in a monopolized situation that you control the entire market and have no competition.

That was a long 4-5 year experiment the casino ran with virtual dealers. The clientele saying, "Enough is enough" finally forced the hand of the casino, that's nice. Maybe a boycott of Blackjack games for a week or so here in the U.S. could force the casinos to offer slightly better rules in some areas. However I have seen quite a few people who enjoy playing the virtual table games over a live table game, weird.

LMAO! The impossible task of coordinating with other players around the country to do the same thing all in unison would be tough. If anything the 6-5 BJ should be boycotted (a no-brainer) along with the virtual gambling machines which equates to early retirement for dealers and pit crew employees.

I've boycotted 6:5 as well since they first came out. I didn't have the BR to make a killing when you could do anything at a 6:5 table.
