The governor is now talking about several new possible spots for a New York City casino, including Manhattan. The is the first time I have ever heard of Manhattan as a possibility, and it sounds unlikely. The Jacob Javits center is on the far West Side. This is a good spot for several reasons.
- The planned subway extension would drop people off at the front door.
- There are a large number of hotels in the area.
- The Javits Center could use expansion.
- A very large space is available above the rail yards.
There would be complaints on the West Side about traffic. But, the previous (ridiculous) plan for the area was a stadium, which would have created vastly more traffic. A casino in Manhattan makes far more sense than a stadium, in my mind. See http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/08/ny...-new-york.html.
