Bettie: Not sure what to make of this
letter to the editor in today's paper:
"To the editor:
In response to your Sunday editorial, "Downtown continues to slump," how about making downtown Las Vegas a little more locals-friendly?
As far as I am concerned, downtown does not need newer rooms and hotel amenities. It needs better games, especially table games.
No one even somewhat savvy is going to play blackjack when the casino only pays 6-to-5 for a blackjack instead of 2-to-1. So leave that to the morons on the Strip.
Bring back the fair games with low minimums that made the Binion family and the other downtown casino owners rich and successful in the first place. The places would be packed just like they used to be, and the downward slump would end. It is just that simple."
The overall message is great, but... You all see it, right?

1) Morons DO play the 6:5 version of Blackjack;
and
2) blackjack traditionally pays 3-to-2, not 2-to-1.
Do I win a prize?

Parker: Makes sense to me
If a casino downtown (or anywhere else, for that matter) were to have all its blackjack tables pay 2:1 for a blackjack (all the time, other rules normal, typical table limits), I can guarantee you that every one of those tables would be packed with players, 24/7. Hell, there would be people lined up outside the door, waiting to get in.

Bettie: True dat, Parker!
I just find it funny that she makes such an egregious error regarding a very basic tenet of the game and in the very next sentence calls everyone playing 6:5 morons! I don't think she was suggesting that casinos pay 2:1, right (Lord, hear my prayer...)? She was comparing the two games as if they existed, and I swear I read it 5 times trying to see what I was missing!
