bjplayer: why all the fuss of surveillance and stuff?

when I first learned about basic strategy, and played just bs, no keeping a count for betting purposes, I did much better than now that i know about keeping a count. it is probably poor betting money management. anyways, i had a driver once who used to be a casino manager for like 15 years he said, and i asked him why all the fuss and concern about backing people off and such. and he said when he was in the business, he used to tell his employees to just let players play, and who cares if they are winning or losing. it's not their (pit bosses and dealer's) money, it's the casino's. So quit hovering over players.

So, from people who have probably been pros for a long time at this game of bj, I was wondering why all the fuss? Are you only allowed to play in casinos if you are a dork and no nothing about anything? Why not just ask people for their money at the door and send them home and avoid all the drama of "watching" and tapping on the shoulder and stuff. Casinos invite people to try to win money and when you do or even don't, there's all this fuss. "oh, he's winning....ooooohhh" Duh, you asked me to try.

Can you shed some light on this, becuase it's just not become fun anymore to get out of town and go to a casino to try to win some cash. What's the thinking behind all this?

I've gotten tapped a few times as a red chip player betting 1 to 4---big deal, what kind of threat is that? And more often than not, i'm way down when the tap comes. It all seems insane.

This is simply not the mind-set of casino management. It would be nice if it were, but you ran into a unique individual. Today, management is more paranoid than ever; teams have taken large sums out of casinos, and all are now corporate, with shareholders and bottom lines to protect. The result is the most stringent game protection in history (MindPlay, CSMs, FRS, NME, etc.), and a sorry state of affairs for BJ.

    Yes.

    They would if they could.

Exactly. Don't look for a rational answer. You're dealing with brain-dead imbeciles, with the IQs of earthworms.

See above. If you're smarter than the pit bosses (which is a given, because my shoes are smarter than 90% of pit bosses), then they resent your winning.

Down or up makes no difference. You have a positive e.v., albeit a few bucks an hour. You're taking the seat of someone who could lose a few bucks an hour, instead of win. Ergo, you're not welcome. Sad, huh?

Of course, the single funniest part of it all is what they save by tossing you and the likes of you out of their casinos pales in significance to the millions that casinos lose every year by NME and horrible cuts. But, they're much too stupid to understand that.
