by Don, but I really believe in my heart of hearts, that Don wants what's best for everyone, i.e., to win money and be happy.
It is with that in mind that I highly recommend you visiting and reading, James Grosjean and Previn Mankodi's article titled, "CTR-Averse Betting", at blackjackforumonline.com.
It is a new piece for the summer edition of Blackjack Forum, and is highly recommended for high stakes players. Its value is applicable in every venue that you'll play in, and is especially valuable for your upcoming trip to Vegas.

NYCfudu: one more thing hollywood
When dealer shows an Ace and you have a BJ. Yell out "EVEN MONEY" right away! (assuming it's the right count) AC has procedures for this to be done right but in vegas, if you don't say "EVEN MONEY" some dealers will ROB you push your BJ even though you put out the insurance bets. Most critters will tend to take the side of the dealer if you argue about it.

Let's explain a little more here: In A.C., you're not allowed to call out "even money"; you (stupidly) HAVE to put up the insurance bet. If you had no money, you would not be permitted to take the even money without coming up with the cash or chips.
Of course, in Las Vegas, where they aren't such morons, you don't have to go through this idiotic procedure, and so, being permitted to take even money is a convenience. That being the case, dealers are not accustomed to seeing players put up chips for insurance when they have a natural. What would be the point? Everyone simply says, "even money," you get paid, and that's that.
So, Hollywood, if insuring your natural is correct, do NOT reach for your chips; just say "even money" and be done with it.

I always have my indices down like clockwork.
But, that being said, do my indices change when surrender is available?
Thanks,

So they do it just like the islands.
In all the islands and Puerto Rico it works the same way. You need only yell out even money.
Thanks for the tip.

Thank you B. Point taken. I will give a look.

Parker: Surrender
> By the way, does almost ever game in Vegas have
> surrender?
No! I'd estimate that fewer than half of the major properties have it, and very few of the smaller properties. And of course, none of the single or double deck games have it, but you're probably not interested in those (and at your betting level you wouldn't last long at them :-)).
Furthermore, there is not always a sign.
You might want to search TrackJack, and make a list of all the casinos that offer it.
And of course, if you're not sure, ask before playing!

Don Schlesinger: Re: Absolutely!

The standing indices don't change -- and they still apply to multi-card holdings -- but the surrender indices take priority over standing. So, for, say, 15 v. 9, 10, and ace, and 14 v. 10, you will be surrendering before (at a lower index than) considering standing.

bfbagain: Does almost ever game in Vegas...
Every game that YOU should be playing will have surrender. At least the shoe games. And if you find a 6D game with DAS/RSA/S17 and NOT SURRENDER, then my suggestion is you're in the wrong place. :-)
And RUN. Run away as fast as you can, and find the nearest game with surrender. As a quick FYI:
Games with Surrender:
Caesars
Aladdin
Bellagio
Monte Carlo
Luxar
Mandalay Bay
Hard Rock
Las Vegas Hilton
Venetian
Paris
Bally's
Mirage
MGM Grand
The NYNY
The Palms
Treasure Island
Wynn
to name a few
