That's what I assumed, yet Bringing Down The House implied otherwise. I thought the book stunk, but a lot of blackjack experts I respect agreed with the general premise, that they played a long time using 1970's style straight counting team play.
I still think the book was chock full of errors and not very realistic.
P.S.- I had Thorp as a professor at UCI for 2 years. I believe those were the last 2 years he taught regular classes, although he held graduate seminars for a while after that. I passed his classes, but struggled.
