Cyrus: George Pappadopoulos on Blackjack
"A leading expert specializing in non-card counting [what is he counting then, sheep?!] a popular radio and TV guest, a sought-after public speaker and author of two best-selling Blackjack books" as his short bio at the end of the piece modestly proclaims, George Pappadopoulos recommends "watching out for trends, trends exist just like in the stockmarket". That's from his article titled "Myths vs Realities", in a recent issue of Casino Player. He goes on to recommend that players should get up and leave when they lose 4 hands in a row. That's an indication that "their personal trend has chaged for the worse". (Extended to the stockmarket, I guess this means that an investor should get out if a stock's performance dips 4 quarters in a row. Hey, that's not bad advice at all -- I wonder if Mr Pappadopoulos is on to something there!..)
The magazine occasionally publishes bits of voodoo like that, so this is nothing new. But it's always a bit disheartenting to flip a few pages in the same issue and find Arnold Snyder offering solid advice about Tournament Blackjack.
Oh well. Who said experts can be choosy?

Sounds to me like a better comparison is selling a stock after it goes down 4 DAYS in a row.
Methinks this smells like a Greek Target ripoff. Wasn't Mr. Pappadopoulos featured in a bank commercial with Sandy Duncan (before she became famous)in California in the late 60's?

Claymore22: Bish article on Tourmanent Blackjack
Can you provide more details, please, about this article? (Which issue of magazine? Downloadable from anywhere?)

veinte-uno: Re: Bish article on Tourmanent Blackjack
It is from the Febrary 2002 Casino Player. The funny thing about the whole issue is the fact that the Bish is the only one giving sound blackjack advice and Georgie gets the front cover!!
"Exposing the Truths About Blackjack"
If you haven't read this article yet, try to get your hands on it. It is good for a counter's laugh!

Franz Joseph: Re: George Pappadopoulos on Blackjack
How are the blackjack books by Juan Peron, Tito, Franco, Assad, etc.? Greece had a dictator named George Papadopoulos in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
But seriously folks: Casino Player has Q and A column by Snyder every month and had had articles by other real blackjack authorities. CP has many full page casino advertisements each month and this Atlantic City based magazine has never, to the best of my knowledge, editorialized against the outrages perpetrated by the industry in Atlantic City or against the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. The CCC removed early surrender and the regulation, which had required casinos to maintain $2 and $5 tables, in 1981, without issuing any compensating regulations favorable to the players. It has refused to require casinos to maintain non-smoking sections and, along with the legislature, has allowed the casinos to greatly increase the portion of casino floorspace that may be occupied by slot machines.

Can you imagine the advice he gave Clinton?

I've already mentioned how "dirty" I felt when my one and only CP article appeared close enough to Frank Scoblete's stuff to make me want to hide in shame.
