    Bettie: Palms Privacy Issues

As you'll recall, I posted info that the Palms was scanning photo ids upon sign-up without informing the customer that it was happening. I was very suspicious, so when I went to get a comp the other day and they didn't ask for my id, I pitched a fit about their scanning my id after I had told them not to. Apparently, and this was my suspicion, you have to tell them not to scan your dl each and every time you go to the slot club.

I made a big deal out of it, telling them that they had done it without my permission and actually expressly against my wishes, that they should have a big sign informing people of what they are doing, and that I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't hear from the ACLU soon, etc. Loud enough to make my point and for others in line to hear, but not causing a scene. They took a small piece of paper and scanned it through to delete my picture and then showed me that the area on their screen was blank.

I want to get myself organized enough to find out who to make a formal complaint to, but I can't get myself into any trouble there because it's a good deal for locals. What I really need to do is get the word out that the Palms is doing this and that it needs to be stopped. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bettie

How about contacting Al Rogers? This might be his kind of thing.

if you're not doing anything wrong in the casino why do you care if they have your picture? were u having a bad hair day?

players cards are optional not mandatory to play slots, etc. here's the easy solution don't get one!

Yes, that's it. I also had a zit that day, so I'm furious, of course! I never said anything about my picture, and that's not why I think it's wrong. 99% of the public has their SS# on their DL, which should be private info. I do not have that on my DL, but the point is that they are doing this without telling their customers and after I specifically told them that I didn't want them to scan my DL. They are only doing this because their attempt to have players add their photos to their players card willingly failed miserably, so now they are taking your picture without warning. If they are going to do that, then they need to advertise to their customers that this is what they are doing.

There is absolutely no point to playing vp without a card to track your progress. The value is not in the game but in what the casino gives you for playing. I'm not about to give up the thousands of dollars in cash-back, comps, and gifts that I get each month just because the Palms isn't up-front about their policies. Why are they so secretive about it? Because they know that the general public wouldn't be happy with having their DL on file for anyone behind the counter to view.

When i signed up for my card they told me they were scanning my photo ID, I asked them why and they said it so I did not need it to get comps from the slot club, great idea I thought.

    bfbagain: It's fine I guess, if you're

    not an advantage player.

Become one, and you'll see that this is not a good thing. Have your identity compromised, as in stolen, and have it traced back to a casino, and you'll become a privacy advocate pretty quick. :-)

I'd much rather pull out my license each time I went to the slot club than allow anyone who works there to pull up my info whenever they want. Sure, they have the mailing address and birthdate already, but if someone has your DL# and SS# (and I already said that I don't have that on my DL), they can do a world of damage to you.

Recently it was discovered that several hundreds of local identities were stolen from a Las Vegas DMV via a computer that stored the exact same info that anyone working the slot club at the Palms would have. I'll take a couple seconds of "inconvenience" to pull my license out over that kind of mess anytime.
