    Hard 8 :: ::: New tram?

    Does anyone have info on the new tram on the Strip? Is it open? Where does it go?

    Looking to save some "shoe" leather out on the Strip.

    Thanks,

    The Las Vegas Monorail will run from the MGM Grand to the Sahara. It is presently in the testing phase, and scheduled to open "this summer." It was originally scheduled to open March 1, but in a move worthy of Washington politicians, the developers refuse to call this a "delay."

    It will cost $3 each way to ride. Future plans include an extention to downtown, but that is at least a few years away.

    Bettie: Tram Info

    During testing last month, part of the track fell off to the street below in one area, so it appears there is still quite a wait. The current portion of the tram was built with casino funds, each paying for their own station and a portion of the track. Interesting side note - it was supposed to go all the way to Stratosphere, but they decided to use the money for that crappy ride that rubberbands you over the edge of the tower instead.

    The portion of the track that will extend to downtown will be funded by taxpayer dollars, so it's sure to be a few years before the fund has enough money to go forward with the project. I'm sure it won't have the luxurious stations that are up now, either. At least, it'd better not, this is MY money we're talking about!

    Bill Saver: Re: Tram Info

    There is something that does not sound right with the monorail. It was originally going to open on January 20 then March then April and now "summer". This is supposedly due to testing and software problems but it seems that there are other problems. Some of the stations are nowhere near complete and I am not seeing as much testing now as there was before. It seems to me that something is not right and perhaps a good journo could seek out the truth.
