    Bettie: Anyone remember Alystra?

Passed by the Alystra today and was surprised that I had never seen it, even though I'm rarely out there. Did some research on the net real quick and discovered that it was open from September 20, 1995 until 1998, and was apparently called the Grand Victorian prior to that.

It looks like it's in great condition, and it's such a beautiful Victorian-style building (I miss the Frank Lloyd Wright neighborhood I used to live in). Anyway, does anyone on the boards recall ever playing there and can offer me any info on the interior or history of the casino?

    Thanks,
    Bettie

I was there. I believe in 1996. I agree that the outside has a look but can't recall any significant architecture within. As I recall you entered the front door and immediately climb from a open foyer to the second floor casino, players club and coffee shop. Seems as if the woodwork and bannister, etc. were all painted white. Not what you might expect in a Victorian. Just another neighborhood casino. It was a while ago, I could be wrong. I think this was the same trip that I went to the "Pot of Gold" opening which has since closed as well.

Bettie, Alystra was run down by the Sunset Station. They really tried to hang in there but to no avail. The interior was/is as grand as the exterior. Light ocean blue accents with basic eggshell walls. To be honest it resembled more of a bunny ranch than a casino but it did/does still have the F.L. Wright style that the exterior hints of. She was a grand ole soul in her time.

    Bettie: Thanks guys

Thanks guys. I think I'll head over to the Gambling Museum at the Trop next time I'm in that area and find out what kind of Alystra stuff they have there.
