Viktor Nacht: New Hunter S. Thompson Interview about Vegas
-
scobee 1: Thanks Viktor..
I included a small image of the Dr. by his partner in gonzo, Ralph Steadman. Those stories in Rolling Stone were compelling in themselves, but it was the illustrations by Steadman that made them irresistible. I can only imagine in my nightmares what his Alice in Wonderland must be like.
Somehow I have a feeling that Dr. Hunter will always have a presence on this LVE forum. At least let's hope so.

Indeed. Steadman is a Brit who hates America and doesn't particularily like Thompson, but keeps getting roped into working with him.
It may be out of print, but his book America is worth hunting down. It is a collection of his illustrations done during visits to this country, along with some commentary. It is a large format book, and includes some of the work from Fear and Loathing . . . in a large format. This alone is worth the price of the book, but wait until you see his take on Disneyland. :-)
Steadman is a gifted, albeit somewhat twisted artist in his own right.
Somewhere in one of his writings, Thompson describes having to get Steadman out of a bar in a hurry due to his habit of doing sketches of people in the bar and presenting them to the people.

No argument here. :-)

Parker: Outstanding interview
The two commentaries that followed it were also quite interesting.
It appears that the good doctor is most definitely not mellowing with age.
This is a Good Thing.
My God, has it really been 30 years?
As the late, great Jerry Garcia sang, "What a long, strange trip it's been."
