Norm Wattenberger: CV Blackjack Futures
It will be quite awhile before the next release of CVBJ. However, I like to start early with planning. This way I can decide which areas could use a major reworking. Please e-mail or post requests for the next version.

David Spence: Widescreen aspect ratio
I wish I could give you a long list of feature requests, but CVBJ already does far more than anyone has a right to expect.
That being said, one very slight annoyance: regardless of the table size I choose, the graphics in CVBJ are slightly stretched horizontally. I think this is function of my laptop's screen resolution (1680x1050) and widescreen aspect ratio, but I doubt that I'm the only one with such a screen. Would it be possible to have a table size that looks correct on a screen with a widescreen aspect ratio?

This sounds like an error in the video setup. The resolution of wide screen monitors should be set such that the same twips per pixel exists horizontally and vertically. My home setup is extremely wide - 3840x1200 on two side-by-side 24" monitors acting as one. The table is not stretched. There is space on each side. I have plans for that space for widescreen users.

Maybe it's just my own confusion. Desktop icons and graphics in other applications look fine (e.g. things which should be perfect circles or squares look like perfect circles or squares), but the cards in CVBJ look a little wide. Maybe it's because they're supposed to look like they're being viewed at a angle, thereby shortening their appearance on screen. Is that the case?

Exactly. In fact the top of the cards are less wide than the bottoms and the dealer cards are smaller.

I just noticed that. I'm always relieved when my own confusion is the explanation for something :-)

David Spence: Re: CV Blackjack Futures
Here are two ideas:
1) Distractors: if this option is set, periodic distractors will appear. These consist of an animated figure asking questions such as "Cocktails?" or "Do you have a players card?", followed by a modal dialog into which the user must enter an answer.
2) Customizable table felt: the user is able to select felts corresponding to major casinos. If this would present licensing problems, the user selects a color and text for the felt. The printed dealer action on soft 17 may also be modified.

I've never liked the idea of animation distractions. I've always suggested people create their own with their favorite music, TC, etc. However the dialog suggestion may change my mind. Asking a trivia question or an unrelated index question and demanding an answer could be a real distraction.

I did have color and text options in an earlier release. But can't be done with the new graphics since they are real photographs and must be merged as seamlessly as possible with a couple hundred shoe and tray images.

It might be fun to let forum members suggest some of the
actual 'distracting' questions they've been asked while at
the tables. Not just legitimate BJ questions, but also
typical ploppy, dealer, waitress and PC queries/comments.

Adding this requires a few thousand questions. Suggestions are welcome.

If creating a list of questions and, possibly, acceptable answers would be too tedious, maybe you could leave that to the user. That is, have a user-modifiable text file that lists questions and acceptable answers. Something such as the following might work:
"[Question 1]": "[Answer A for Question 1]", "[Answer B for Question 1]", etc.
"[Question 2]": "[Answer A for Question 2]", "[Answer B for Question 2]", etc.

Norm Wattenberger: Wouldn't work
They'd never do it. I need to come up with some classes of questions. Trivial arithmetic. Some trivia dates. Simple questions with numeric answers to throw off counting.

Norm Wattenberger: An odd thought
Two problems. First I need to add distractions. Secondly, practice can be very boring. Suppose I add a chat window so users could chat with other users while practicing? This could partially satisfy both. Albeit I would expect little use of the window.
