$50 min, lousy pen (50%), dealt from a shoe, only one table on main floor (more in high limit room).
Bottom line: Don't bother.

Thanks Parker. Have to Spend the night in SD and Barona is sold out because of Tom Jones so we are lookin for a place to stay and play. What would you do in my shoes? I do prefer single deck and then double, but I realize already that I don't get everything. For example, although my first choice is Barona, I don't get to suck on a brewski there. See the sacrifices we must make?

If you're coming to San Diego for business, you probably don't want to stay at a casino hotel. All the casinos are located on Indian reservations, meaning that they are 20 miles or more from central San Diego. All except Viejas involve driving on winding 2 lane mountain roads. When you see the road to Barona, you will be glad that they don't serve alcohol.
Strictly speaking, Sycuan does not have a hotel. The "resort" is actually a few miles from the casino. The only casinos with attached hotels are Barona, Pala, Harrah's Rincon, and Pechanga.
Barona has the only single deck, and the best games overall. It is also the only place where you can usually find a double deck game with less than $50 min.
The other double deck games are at Pala and Harrah's Rincon. As mentioned, they are usually $50 min or more. Penetration is borderline or worse at Harrah's.
Also, the casinos are in two different general areas. Barona, Sycuan and Golden Acorn are all due east of town; Pala, Pauma, Harraha's, Valley View and Pechanga are all north/northeast of town. The most distant casinos (Pechanga and Golden Acorn) are over 60 miles from downtown San Diego.
If I were coming to San Diego for a weekend, I'd stay at a hotel downtown or in Mission Valley, and drive to Barona.

Parker, I heard Pechanga has decent 2D games. Is this true or is it still like Golden Acorn and Pauma, not worth the drive as you once commented.
I stopped at Valley View once. Too small and the pit too sweaty.
Thanks!

Last time I was up that way, I noticed that Pechanga had a double deck table in their high limit room. It was dealt from a shoe, $100 min, same rules as the shoe games (H17, DAS, NS), and poorly penetrated. Naturally, the high limit area has an abundance of pit critters. I would not describe it as "decent."
Pechanga has been in serious expansion mode lately, and now has more blackjack tables than just about any other casino in CA. They may have added more DD tables since my visit. However, I have always found that the lack of surrender and poor pen on their shoes put them in the "not worth the drive" category, at least for San Diegans. Someone coming south from Orange/Riverside counties might want to stop for a quick look around.
Valley View offered a few decent games for a period last year, and apparently did not like the results. There is nothing playable there now, and all their marketing seems to be aimed at slot players.

$25 double deck tables? I've never seen the DD table in the main pit at less than $50. Of course, it has been years since I have been out there in the daytime. Or are you referring to the $25 shoe tables?
If you consider the penetration there to be "average," then either the games have improved a great deal since I was last there or else . . . you really need to find better games.
On second thought, the pen there may well be "average," at least among all the San Diego area casinos.
Which is a sorry state of affairs indeed. :-P

Yes things change fast and if you haven't been there
in years, well yes indeed $25 dbl deck. Not that it is a cause for a celebration or anything.
