Parker: 6:5 single deck comes to San Diego

Sadly I note that both Pala casino and Harrah's Rincon in north San Diego county now offer single deck games with 6:5 blackjack payouts.

Pala even has the nerve to make it a $25 min table, when there are good, playable 6 deck shoe games (H17, DAS, LS) with $10 min a few tables away.

Worse, people are actually playing these games. I have an uncontrollable urge every time I walk past a 6:5 table to stop and scream at the top of my lungs at the players, "You people are idiots!"

But that doen't fit with my plan of keeping a low profile.

I'd say a 6:5 single deck game and a CSM are about equally unplayable. Sort of like choosing between the gas chamber and lethal injection. Personally, I'd rather not choose either.

Not sure what casino you are referring to. The only place in San Diego county that still offers S17 is Golden Acorn, and only on their six deck shoes, and they have converted their DD to fake 2D. There is no DD anywhere in the county with less than a $25 min, with $50 much more common, and most of that features 50% pen.

At present I'd have to call the local conditions mediocre at best.

Gotcha. I haven't been up there in years. It's a long drive from San Diego - by the time I get that far, I've got momentum and tend to just keep on going to Las Vegas or Laughlin. :-)

No, but there are ways to beat a CSM, or at least reduce the house edge. And if you try to use the sort of spread necessary to beat a 6:5 game, you will quickly get the boot. It appears that even many pit critters are unaware just how bad this game is, and hawk it like a regular single deck game.

    Just say no. :-)
