Small-Timer: Siena Reno
I was recently backed-off at Siena spreading only 1-4 in red chips for less than an hour. This was my first back-off in many years, so I've managed to stay under the radar until now. Is Siena's heavy-handed approach a recent development? Has anyone else received the same treatment? Also, when would it be safe to return there again on the same (or a different) shift?

Alexder Mundya: Re: Siena Reno
The Siena is losing money and there are rumors that it will close, at least for the winter. I know of 1 other player backed off spreading 1-4 red, and heard of a non-ap backed off for getting lucky. I asked the newly hired GM, formerly of P'mill and Rail City, about it and he denied that it was policy, even tho both P'mill and RC backs of all stakes players. BTW, the other player went back and played on other shifts.

Are these rumors you're hearing credible? I've never heard of a club closing for the winter. Do you think it's likely Sundowner will close before Dec. 1? Also, what have you heard about Comstock being coverted back into a hotel/casino? As always, Mr. Mundy, I appreciate your comments.

Probably, the owner has lost millions since it opened and winter is the slow season in Reno - actually all year is the slow season anymore.

Hard to tell, business has been about normal for them, so they might last. I won another $600 there the other night playing red for an hour. I'm well over EV there. I've averaged over $200 hr there with 5 or 6 back offs over the last few years. Unfortunately, they are quick to back off, so I haven't played there much.
Also, what have

The Comstock is currently offered on eBay, starting bid $8 mil.
As always, Mr. Mundy, I

What is your recent experience at the Sands? Compared to a few years ago, it seems like they've got more non-BJ garbage games and more DD tables. Their SD hasn't been playable during my last few visits, but maybe it's just a question of timing. Of course, I'd love to see Comstock reopened, since our options downtown are rapidly diminishing.

local: casino closures
sundowner closes this monday (nov10)
hilton is for sale also
unless they start loosening up fast, reno casinos are dead
the days of picking of clueless tourists are over
the only way reno can compete with cali indian gaming is if they offer a looser game, which they could do if they wanted to (looser games bring more gamblers, some win but most lose, casinos still profit, just not as much)
but the facts that cali indian gaming pays no taxes period (not even property tax), has no regulatory burden, and is closer to the market is pretty much unbeatable

Local, are you sure about this? I checked today's RG-J, but there's no mention of it. I thought they would at least wait until after Vets' Day. You're right, of course, regarding the Indian challenge. The Reno casinos need to advertise in the NorCal market how much looser their BJ games are, compared to those garbage games being dealt on the reservations.

Officials with the Sundowner say the hotel-casino will close its doors for good Monday November 10th at 6AM.
Employees there are shocked. They first learned of the business' demise on October 3rd. They received pink slips along with their paychecks. But they were happy to have 60 days notice. Now they have only 2 days to find another job.
Some employees say rumors had been circulating the Sundowner would close earlier than December 1st. There are also rumors the business has been sold, but those have not been substantiated.
All officials with the hotel-casino will say is the business is shutting down early so they can cut their losses.

j11: Alternative to closures.
Jack Binion will be foot-loose and fancy-free as soon as the sale of his casinos to Harrahs is completed, although he is supposed to serve as an advisor after the sale. He could be the 'king' if he went into Reno and revitalized gaming there. I am sure he could get many concessions from the city and even some of the unions by going in there now. He would have a trained workforce of people who do not want to relocate from Reno and he would not have to face the competition of trying to open a place in Vegas.
Based on his track record, he could establish a profitable enterprise with perhaps multiple casinos there. Also, his relationship with the Nevada Gaming Authority is probably better than his relationships were in the other states he operated in.
Perhaps wishful thinking by me, but perhaps Jack's plan when he sold.

I also was backed off in 45 minutes with 1-6 red spread. Pit phone rang after insured against Ace up. I was down when backed off, but returned different day/shift and hit it hard and fast successfully. Agree, the attitude has changed to intolerance.
Good cards to you.
