    Coug Fan: Reno Questions

I am getting ready to make a trip to Reno in the next month or so and wanted to get clarification on a few items.

First, how reliable / accurate is the game info per Trackjack? I am pretty much only interested in SD, and some of the games listed look very tempting.

Second, what casinos are best for comps for a low roller (red to light green in SD). I have my room covered through a package deal but am looking for free meals and future free room offers.

Third, any other worthwhile attractions in case I get tired of winning the casino's money and need a break?

Fourth, what is the current heat level? Said another way, if I keep my sessions to an hour or so and have a max bet of $50-$75, what is an acceptable spread with a decent act?

It has been quite a while since I've been to Reno, so I'm only able to take a shot at #3

If time permits, I would definitely take a drive south to Lake Tahoe. It's about 60 miles, and an easy drive. I'd suggest you go via Mount Rose, which will bring you into the north side of the lake...the view is excellent. BTW, the drive back via Mount Rose at night will give you a rather impressive view of Reno just after you crest the mountain.

If weather allows, you may want to visit Sugar Pine Point on the western side about mid way down. A nice out of the way place to chill and watch the world go by...not for cold weather! Great in the summer with a subway sandwich sitting on the dock!

Further down you will catch up to the casino area which in itself is worth a trip. The unique thing is California is on one side of the street and Nevada the other...no casinos then Harrah's, Bill's, Caesar's and others. If there is an entertainer appearing, and you can get tix, a $20 tip to the maitre d' will get you down front.

You can take the tram up to Heavenly...the view is spectacular, worth the price. This is the place where Sonny Bono unfortunately met his fate.

Lake Tahoe is right at 6,300', which is almost exactly the height of the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire, the highest point in New England. Guess where I'm from? :-)

I'd mention the Bonanza TV site, but I doubt you'd care for that, a little on the hokey side.

You may want to consider a trip to Virginia City. A winding road, but, if wooden sidewalks and cowboy kinda stuff with old time history is your thing, it may be worth considering.

    Good luck, good cards!!

    Regards,

It's been quite a few years, but I've skied the bowl at Mt. Washington and done a few of the huts. Great hiking and friendly people. There was a terrific lobster dinner, I believe the restaurant was the Red Coat Inn.

In the local vernacular, that would be a "wicked good lobstah dinnah".

Glad you have good memories of a special place!
