low stakes rookie: Late Surrender
Julian Braun's Basic Strategy, as published in Humble's WGBJB, advises the player to surrender 10,6 and 9,7 v. 9, 10, and A, as well as 15 v. 10 (10,5 and 9,6 for 4D, and all 15s against 6D).
However, according to Wong's Generic BS charts and other modern texts, the "correct" play is to surrender all 16s (including 8,8) against 9, 10, and A, as well as all 15s.
Which is more accurate? Is Braun's logic out of date?

Not quite. Do NOT surrender 8,7 v. T in 6-deck, but DO surrender it in 8-deck.

I assume you're excluding BJA3. :-)

Name your sources, please. They're obviously wrong. I don't believe Wong ever said to surrender 8,8 v. T anywhere.
> Which is more accurate? Is Braun's logic out of date?
Correct BS for multi-deck is all 16s (but not 8,8) v. 9, T, and Ace, and all 15s v. T in 7-deck or above. For 6-deck and below, do NOT surrender 8,7 v. T.

Personally, I love to surrender 15s v. 10 even in a 6-deck shoe. Makes me look like a scared ploppy surrender monkey. I think Ian Anderson and Wong called this "crazy surrender." Works like a charm. The tiny TINY advantage I give up with 15 v. 10 in 6 decks is worth the surrender cover. I've had many pit bosses say, "You've got to play some of those 15s and 16s if you want to win at this game." I just smile and shrug as I walk out with 5 black chips surreptitiously slipped into my jacket pocket.

I'm afraid I am. Sorry.

BJ Secrets, p.34.

I just happened to have a copy of BJ Secrets handy, and my chart on page 34 clearly says to always split 8-8. Better take another look.
BTW, you *really* need to pick up a copy of BJA3.

Yeah, you're right. I was focusing on hard 16 v.10 only.

Is it better to own the hardback or softcover edition? I heard there are some typos on certain pages in the hardback ed.

"BJ Secrets, p.34."
Nope. My copy clearly says to split 8,8 v. T.

Alas, there are some typos in both editions! Buy the softcover, because it contains materials that the hardcover doesn't.

I didn't know the softcover had more material. What is it? I may be forced to pump up the economy with another purchase. Great book by the way.

The addition of Appendix D. All of Zenfighter's and Cacarulo's work on improving the EORs of Peter Griffin. Truly genial stuff. Many typos corrected, too.

Thank you very much.

Can I get softcover signed by the author like my hardcover edition?

No real mechanism for that at the moment. You'd have to send your book to RGE, they would send it to me, and I would send it back to you. Lots of postage; lots of traveling for the book!

How about surrendering 8,8 at a TC of 2 ?
