Sure, play those hunches. Obviously, your few hours of play mean more than 40 years of research on the game.
Go for it. We need more players like you. Someone has to keep the casinos in business, and it might as well be you.
Maybe you aren't aware of it, but those 14's, 15's and 16's are losing hands against a 9, 10 or Ace. You will lose more often than not no matter what you do. You will lose slightly less often by hitting (even though you will indeed bust a lot), but if you would rather not hit and watch the dealer make a hand, hey, it's your money.
But not for long.

Josh: Re: Good for you
Go to Stanford Wong's site. I believe it was his site. He said that if you stand on a 16 v 8 then you are losing about 10% in a double deck game and about 6 % in a 6 deck game. That is a lot and it adds up. What happened? Did you lose a big bet? Those are tough to take. If you'd rather do something else, then do it but playing the game the way you explained is not the answer.

Coug Fan: Just always stand
If you are not going to use the correct strategy, then just make it as simple as possible and always stand. Its easier to remember and alot more fun since you never have to worry about busting. Just make sure that you are getting plenty of drinks and free food. Since you don't care how much money you lose, you should also play alot of roulette and slot machines. You get to watch the pretty wheel spin around.
