30 sec. Am i fast enough?? obviously i wont bet big if i get flustered

I would go for the 6D. You will feel more comfortable. Try to backcount a shoe before actually playing so that you know if you are ready.

I think you are You should try counting down more than one deck to see if you can keep the same pace. Maybe you can't count 4D in 80 secs. Try that.

That's smart. However maybe you shouldn't bet big anytime since this is your first trip.. have you thought about bankroll requirements? Many new/casual counters forget about it, have a bankroll of $1K and bet $25, last a couple of hours and don't play BJ anymore. Don't let that happen to you
Good luck and have fun!

For someone that is using $25.00 for a unit and playing a single deck game, what amount would you
recommend for a session bankroll? Playing say, 1 hour per session, 3 to 4 hours per day for 3 days
what would you recommend for a trip bankroll? I know it is a little subjective, depending on ROR but what do you use and recommend? I appreciate your input, Thanks

I'm not sure where it originated, but a number I have often heard tossed around for a trip of this length is 40 max bets. So, if you were spreading 1-4 green on your single deck game, $4K would be a good number. On my own trips spreading green, I usually take $5K, just to be safe.

I calculate my trip bankroll following the formula you can find in BJ for blood p. 160/161. If you don't have it I can calculate it for you but I would need your spread and the EV you have when you bet your max.
If you play $25-$100 and your large bet expectation is +2.25% (AOII) for 12 hours play you need $3.720, the $4.000 that Parker mentioned.
It's the example you can find in the book. So now you know where it comes from

Blille: Parker, just checking
Is it ok that I answer posts myself or you are the one supposed to do that since we are in Parker's land ? I just want to help. However I expect you to correct me if I say something wrong!

PS: I erased the previous post because I made a grammar error, and I know Don could kill me..

I am merely the host/moderator, and I certainly don't claim to have all the answers. The goal is an active discussion, so you (and everyone else) are more than welcome to jump in and answer questions.
Just don't make me look stupid. :-)

Well, kill is a little strong. Probably nothing worse than a severe beating. :-)

Buick Riviera: Creatureman Advice
Here's my humble opinion:
As a first time counter you will find it difficult to keep the count while trying to 1)total your hand 2)make the correct BS or index decision 3)ignore the impatient players and/or dealor while you make your decision 4)respond to the cocktail waitress 5)look like your not counting.
Therefore, I suggest starting with a low limit SD or DD game downtown. Then, when you lose the count, it won't be long until the shuffle when you can start all over.
I'm basing this on my own first time try at counting. However, with about 4 hours experience, I finally felt confident that I was keeping the count.
It sounds to me like you are plenty fast enough. It's just dealing with all the casino distractions that takes getting used to.

Now, Parker, let's face facts: I haven't corrected anyone's grammar here for at least five or six days, right? :-)
