jon wite: accurate cover costs
this is to don s.
after reading bj attack second ed. you write that more work has to be done about the various cover plays and to see how much it will cost.
for example i would like to know how much it will cost sitting on s18 against 9, 10 , A ? on my true 1 or true2 and true 3 and so on, of course i will be betting different amounts at different levels so this is not clear to me ? any ideas would be interesting , thanks jon wite.

For counters.

Well, it won't cost anything vs. Ace, because, at those counts, it's right to stand. :-)

Norm already knows this, so I'm not telling tales out of school. Of all the features that I've wanted to see in his spectacular line of products, the one thing that CV still cannot do, as of now, is exactly what you're asking for: tell us our EVs for all holdings, all decisions, for all counts. Maybe one day, he'll get around to it.
So, regrettably, right now, I can't answer these kinds of questions.

CVIndex will do this. Or, you could just run long sims. That's what I did to create REKO.

Without sims? Just type in a hand, a dealer upcard, a count, and get, instantly, the EVs for standing, hitting, splitting, doubling?

I believe this is an intractable math problem. Software that claims to do this use representative subsets and give inaccurate results.

To be able to do this kind of thing quickly, and to a reasonable degree of accuracy, compromises are necessary. Right now, since I have no source for this kind of information, I'd settle for intelligently calculated, reasonable, compromises.

thanks don and norm to try and help with this question i raised , however i am still some what confused, is it possible to get in contact with either or both of you through your email address ? thanks jon wite.

The only accurate method of determining advantage with a counting system is with simulation. With simulation; you simply run a billion hands as you would play them in a casino and record the results.
