    jblaze: split 4s

    6-8dk, das, rsp4, decent pen... youre dealt 44 on a dealers 3-6. when youre dealt the 4s, the tc is over that required to double an 8 vs respective dealers card. double or split?

    Split is first order of priority. Another 4 gives you the opportunity to resplit; an Ace, 5, 6 or 7 gives you the opportunity to double. This increases your EV. It also increases your Variance, but the increase in EV should offset the increase in Var. Let the real experts address this issue.

    ES is right. According to Stanford Wong, with 4-4, splitting is better than doubling only if doubling after split is allowed. If not, doubling on 8 is always better.
