paddyBoy: BJ for blood
just started reading this book and whooah!Chapter one has got me rolling my eyes to heaven
"I jet around the world first class, dine on nothing but the finest cuisine, stay in the most luxurious resort hotels, play,at my leisure,in elegant casinos of the world reknown, and return home with a fat profit barely dented by my travel expenses"
I am not doubting that Byrce has done this but it seems like something out of a shopping channel.
I have read Ken Huston on bj and he says that to make a lot of money is very hard, also in Peter Griffins TOBj he said that he was well behind.
Also on page 46 Byrce says for casinos that allow DAS on single deck to split 3,3 v 2 to 7.
shouldnt you split 3,3 v 8 on single deck?
Whats going on?

The words you are reading were probably written over 20 years ago!

My thoughts exactly.
These days he would be lucky to afford a Diet Coke and a Lada
He wouldn't last 20 minutes

Is that to say it was truly more likely THEN to win signifigant amounts of $$$ at BJ than it is now?
As I stated before, my first read on BJ was Canfields "Blackjack Your Way To Riches." Written in the early 70's it also had the same feel as the Carlson passage quoted above.
As you might tell, I am relativly new to BJ. KO is the first count I have studied in depth. It is a bit schocking to find that at the pivot point in a 6D shoe I only have a true advantage -adjusted for the house edge -of appx 1.5%
Dosen't exactly make me feel "powerful"!
BTW, what would be the advantage for George C.'s count at the pivot point?

That 1.5% edge is very powerful seeing as most casinos, if you play basic strategy, only have about a .5% edge. In the long run, you will make money if you play right. To make serious money, though, you must bet serious money and have a bankroll to cover that.

Bryces book, in spite of newer recent publishing dates, is a bit out of date...especially the secions on bet ramping which are a bit conservative given the poor quality of most games today.
It is still quite possible to enjoy excellent comps for the heavy green to low black bettor and I think that is more what he is referring to in his opening passage.
My top bet is 2x$200 (sometimes 2x$300) and I am a comped guest at the top resorts in Vegas, Reno, Mississippi, and elsewhere.
