ignaz: Winning despite infinite shoe: possible?
Hi folks,
sometimes I am playing BJ at Dortmund-Hohensyburg in Germany (S17, DAS, DA2, no surrender, no hole card, INFINITE SHOE).
I am not counting, just using BS.
I am thinking of learning counting, but will it help to get an edge over the house?
Right at the moment I don?t think so.
As I mentioned above, an infinite shoe is used. I am not sure, but I think there are 6 decks in it.
Usually three games are played before the discards get back into the shoe.
According to that the most *favorable* situation will be that roundabout 1 deck ist dealt out after two games at full table. 5 are still in the shoe.
Is it thinkable that I get a positive situation out of that? What would the count be in that case?
Thanks for your replies

I believe the answer depends on the frequency of the positive counts and the increased bet that you can get away with, certainly playing the European game I do sometimes get a small advantage after just one deck has been dealt but in your case you would only benefit for one round.BB.

The "infinite shoe" you refer to is commonly known as a Continuous Shuffle Machine, or CSM for short.
In essence, you are playing a six deck shoe with one deck penetration. Card counting is not generally considered to be an effective strategy against these machines.

I didn?t know that. Thanks!

I was expecting that, but is there anything I can do?
I forgot to mention that wonging is possible. Since the few BJ tables are always packed and bystanders are allowed to place their bets along with the players, it would be no problem to only play in the favorable situations without getting any heat.
It is probably more difficult to find a player who is playing BS;-)
What would be a favorable situation with a penetration of only one deck?

If you live in Germany, the best you can do is find some non-CSM games in neighboring countries. Czech Republic, Belgium, or at least France. There should be also some handshuffled games in Germany (probably not worth playing anyway due to crowded tables and very slow speed).
