Not all side bets are a bad thing.

side bets could be cheap cover as well.....come off teh top with like a nickle or two on the side bets (depending on ur stakes and bankroll) and the pit will usually give you a terrible bj rating and that will be his first impression of you. This post is not an orginal thought but it could be effective

Why would anybody play 6D to begin with when DD is available?

One reason could be - Because people are stupid. Once played an outstanding DD game at the Edgewater one on one with a dealer while the 6-5 SD table next to it had peole standing around waiting to get a seat. Everyone knows SD is better than DD. Just ask them.
Another could be that some casinos use DD games to trap counters.

Many DD games on the Strip, in particular, are notorious counter traps. Just in general, moving bet sizes with the count is apt to be a lot more obvious, and to manifest itself quicker, when you're playing SD and DD. Given a modest sample of hands, it's very easy for a knowledgeable person who's paying attention to pick off a counter playing ANY number of decks, but the problem is heightened playing SD and DD. That's why the majority of experienced professionals have focused on shoe games for many years.

DD's are 25 min and 6D's are 5 min. If you ask why I play both after-the-fact, then it's because as I've gone to more casinos, many of them don't offer double deck. Always gotta be prepared!

IN many casinos, the DD games have poor rules to make them about equal, HEwise, to shoe games. For example, NDAS or D10.
