For the chapter 10 tables, how is the number of units in the Kelly bank column calculated? Why is it in some instances, if you multiply the number of units by the unit size, the value exceeds $10k?

    Thanks,
    MJ

See p. 212, #8. It pays to read the introductory material.

There are Optimal and Practical columns. The Practical are, well, practical bet sizes that deviate slightly from the optimal, so both can't give the same answer of $10,000 all the time.

Hello Don, I read p.212 #8 prior to posting, however, it does not really address my question. I realize that $10k divided by #units in Kelly bank = unit size. But how are the #units in the Kelly bank determined? I assume the Kelly bank is calculated prior to the determination of unit size.

    Thanks,
    MJ

The bank for every chart in chapter 10 is $10,000, which is one of the requirements of SCORE. The optimal bet ramps are then determined for each game. Number of units in Kelly bank = $10k/unit size, which simply reverses the way you wrote it, above.

I realize if you know one the other can be calculated. But which precedes which? Based on p.212 #8, I would think it is Kelly bank. Whichever one comes first, I would like to know how it is calculated.

Most people fix the bank size first. Most people don't say I want my spread to be x or my top bet to be y. They start by saying how much money they have to play the game. Doesn't that make sense to you? So, chapter 10 starts with a $10,000 bank and all the rest follows, as I explained.
