I'm certain BP wasn't trying to lure underage girls. Seriously, if your intent is to commit a crime, that's obviously different. I would bet that over 50% of gmail and hotmail accounts are fake and over 95% of accounts on forums are fake. Look at the Spam-O-Matic stats at the bottom of the main page here. 460 spammers denied registration. All with fake e-mail accounts trying to create fake accounts here.

Paranoia can be valuable -- to a point.

That's more than actual members. Good job Norm. Come to think of it we haven't been subject to the spammers that sometimes made their way onto the old site. Again. Good job.

I also was thinking about that crime angle. These charges mentioned are both add-on charges to more serious crimes. I wonder if they have any validity at all. I am not a lawyer and I am not ever vaguely familiar with california's new impersonation law, nor do I want to spend time looking it up. Sounds like something you just pile on to me hoping it will stick.

Norm is 100% correct. These are only charges because these characters were using FB to commit a crime......it's the old adage....."Guns don't kill people, people kill people." I can create (and have) any persona I wish to create on any on-line site I chose to as long as I am not using such falsification to commit any crime.

However if you're still welcome to play and not using a card, I'm not sure why you fear you are being investigated.
Brock, very alarming, did this happen outside the U.S.?

I am also a Canadian resident. This sounds like an Ontrio trick. I would have raised a strink and made complaints to the cops about inappropriate behavior. The only police justification is if they had been misled by the casino - which of course raises other issues. Witghout justification, the behavior is outrageous.

second case involved a man creating fake facebook accounts to harrass his girlfriend. He was charged with violating california's new impersonation law which went into effect january 1. I have no idea what that law entails.

I am not sure creating fake accounts is the greatest idea, but I certainly would advise closing any accounts that you might already have and not make it easier for casinos/surveillance or anyone else to look you up. I learned that the hard way as part of my 'issues' last summer. I guess that is one of those things you don't think about until it bites you in the ass. Also one of the 'normal' (and that's debatable...lol) things you have to give up if you really pursue AP seriously, whether professionally or not. Kind of sad, really.
All of these things you mention are people committing crimes. I suggest you create a completely phony Facebook profile, Google + profile, Linked-In profile, e-mail account on gmail and/or Hotmail, etc that makes your casino persona appear to be legit. (i.e., other than your e-mail account just create the other social accounts and then forget about them). What you want is for them to show up in Google Search Results in case some casino wise-ass decides to try and do a search on you. The more they find the more legit they will believe you to be...of course, as I mentioned before that if they start searching for you that much you're probably suspected of being dirty somehow already.

This discussion rekindles memories from the early days of social networks and online advertising. We used the images of beautiful girls to create fictitious Myspace profiles that led to "model" photo pages with strategically placed advertisements. It was a beautiful system. The teenage boys (and those pretending to be) would funnel through the Myspace page right into the ad clicks, and the nickels kept rolling in

Social networks have changed immensely since then. Bigplayer's idea of creating a profile for your alias is excellent. If you are going to maintain a FB or G+ profile for the real you, be sure to utilize the privacy settings. This is easier on G+, and despite FB's desire for you to share everything with the world, you can keep your data away from the public eye.

Also, do yourself a huge favor and keep all AP matters out of your profile! This applies to anything you hold sacred. It's not your server, and if you autoclick through an updated user agreement one day (like 100% of users do) that allows them to harvest any of your information, the watchdog groups won't catch it until the damage has been done. Sure, they'll apologize for their "oversights" and undo whatever they did, but the damage is done (See last week's fiasco involving newcomer Path).

Remember, the objective of monster social networks is not to allow friends and family to connect with one another. It's not for cute baby photos, posting news stories about ex-NBA millionaires getting arrested or going bankrupt, or sharing videos of drunken bar escapades. It is to build the largest and most comprehensive database of human behavior in the history of mankind, and then to monetize it. Tread lightly.
