Today there is a big news regarding Covid 19. After infection cases dropped to single digit for months, the second wave hits Singapore. Yesterday and today the case spike to above 200 each day. The crack came from McDonald's which has closed the lobby and only opened drive-thru and used Grubhub delivery like we do in USA. The problem is that Singapore citizens are not willing to work at McDonald's for the minimal wage. So they import foreign workers from Malaysia and nearby poor nations. They put all foreign workers in one or two dorms. Normally there are twelve person sharing one room. After one got Covid 19. Then the virus quickly spread to other foreign employees in the same dorm. Then they spread to the customers coming to drive-thru even it is just "minimal contact". Thus single digit cases quickly spike to more than two hundred case outbreak daily.
Some casinos I frequent use the same business model. Half of employees are under work Visa and are from Russia, eastern European and southern Asian nations where people have good mathematics skill and are willing to work for low wage. From what I know, they are placed in the very crowded dorm and casinos control their movement. Many local Blackjack dealers also opt to live in the same dorm because it is much cheaper than finding their own housing if they are from other cities to work here.
My concern is that if casinos reopen, the virus infection will not come from customer to customer but casino employee to customers. The danger is located in where you can't see. Because no matter how good casinos make it look good using new measurement, when their employees returned dorm, they will live in the horrible and crowded living condition that the Covid 19 can easily spread. Just like the second wave hit Singapore. Also McDonald's just announced they close all 135 stores in Singapore. No more drive-thru or Grubhut delivery. If you crave for fast food, you might want to get some today. There will be new debate on Monday if minimal contact is enough using Singapore as the example. That could lead to drive-thru shutdown eventually.
