    Monday, November 11

In the U.S., Veterans Day, in Canada, Remembrance Day.

In elementary school, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we always stood in silence for 2 minutes. Many of our fathers served, many carried the scars of war.

Let’s not forget the sacrifices of others so that we can, today, enjoy our freedoms.

We celebrate veterans for protecting us from an invasion by Vietnam, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and a host of other nations (Panama, Etc.).

Do take time to consider what our Veterans have done for us.

The U.S. invaded those places. Get it right.

    Zee,

While the thread doesn't belong here, if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing. Being snide about any topic without adding anything constructive hardly warrants a comment.

Raising awareness of what and why we are celebrating is important. Before we celebrate people for “defending” our country, we need to consider how they defended us, whether their actions were necessary for our survival, whether their actions were truly heroic (whether they were fighting people equally armed, equally supported by air, see, intelligence etc.), whether their motivation was to serve us or whether it was to get student loans forgiven or other benefits provided. Just think.

I did not start the thread and saying anything more would get me banned so I quit this thread.

In Australia, we also call it Remembrance Day and a two minute silence is observed in many places, however, it is not a public holiday unlike ANZAC day which is.

I do not know who are the veterans on the site but I thank every one of you for your service to the country.

Freightman, thank you for starting the thread, as you already know I tried years ago doing the same on Wong's site and it seemed that no matter who brought up the event there was always controversy associated with doing so, sad.

I give a genuine thank-you to all veterans. To give so much and get so little in return. Without the veteran's we would be speaking German or Japanese depending on which side of the Rockies you live in.
