20 is a very strong hand that wins around 70% of the time, it is higher especially against 7, 8 followed by low cards. And though you might not win with 20 against dealer 10, you need 20 to avoid losing against dealer 20 as well. Note that 69% of the cards are not 10, the maths show that sticking with 20 against low cards results in higher expected return (Yes, we do not play BJ for only a hand.) than splitting. So, be content with 20, keep it to beat dealer 19 against all dealer upcards.
Card counters know when to split tens at high count because of higher proportion of tens and aces. However, it is not recommended too because that play may end your playing session by casino supervisor. So, NEVER SPLIT TENS.
