They just think along the terms of 'luck'. They'll say things like, "Oh, cool, I wish I was that lucky" or if I say I've been doing it for several years, they say "Wow you've been getting lucky for that long? Sweet!" Of course, there's always the "Just remember, the house always wins!" The concept of using math to determine an advantage and as a means to make an income is something that is just so far removed from their thought process, it'd be like trying to explain calculus to a dog -- the concept simply doesn't exist in their brain.
Even people in a casino don't realize how it works. I don't know how many floormen, pit bosses, or dealers I've heard say something like, "Card counting .... all it does is reduce the house edge. But a player can't win, because there's a house edge in the game."
I met a group of people during a promotion one time, who I was certain were APs (turns out, they weren't). It was a pretty good promotion, definitely worth traveling for. We got to talking...and they realized it was a "good" promotion, but they didn't quite understand the concept that you can actually win money in a casino. They thought it was odd I'd travel to play a promotion, just like how I'd think it's odd if you traveled to Texas just to go to a WalMart. They were doing pretty much everything right, it was just the last little part didn't quite 'click' for them. During our conversations, I'd think it'd finally 'click' in their head, but they'd end up saying something like, "But you never know, you can always lose. It's just a gamble. After all, the house always wins".
I don't mean to be harsh on people who don't understand it, just saying, it's like there's something in their brain that blocks the idea that it's possible to make a sustained income in gambling.
My point is -- it's not something that (IMO) most people can just immediately figure out. It'll take an incredible amount of energy to explain it to almost anyone, and that's probably not something you're going to want to do when trynna pick up chicks. It's like your dragon ballz or yugioh collection, they're (99.54% of the time) not going to be interested whatsoever. No matter how fascinating it is to you, they're not going to see the appeal in it.
