You have been (visually) tricked by common (Mercator) projections.

    Thanx
    Isn't 122.3 W further west than 115.2 W?

Looking at a map with longitude and latitude lines, it's clear Seattle is either further West than Las Vegas, or all these pictures are a misrepresentation.

Flat maps are cylindrical projections of a sphere (really an ellipsoid) that exaggerate EW distances the further you are from the equator.

No, turns out he was that good. There are some others "games" that are sucker bets because of abnormal skills. Golf has a lot.

Once bet $100 I could birdie the first hole and tee out of a Coke paper drink cup. I hit the drive 260 yards (short par 5) hit second shot on green two putted and made birdie.

Lost $100 to golfer who hit 1 iron from in front of counter in golf shop out front door (about 40') onto golf course on same hole as above, he made birdie. And almost got all of us kicked out of golf club.

We referred to these as "hustles"! and there are many more.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

Google "Great Circles". The shortest route between two points on a spherical surface. Airlines make good use of them.

While Seattle may be further West than Las Vegas, the flight could conceivably begin in a North Easterly direction.

Can we end this silly discussion? You fly NW when you go from Las Vegas to Seattle. Period.

Came very close once to a hole in one. Hold was 150 yard par 3. Hit the ball way to hard, and no kidding - a huge gust of wi d came bY, suspended the ball in mid air right over the green. It fell 2 feet from the hole.

My game was vpbad language and luck.

My dad called me once to tell me that he had put the ball 1 inch from the cup on his tee shot on a par 3. I asked him if it was really necessary to call to tell me that he got a birdie.

This is a bit silly, but I would really like to see it resolved. I'm still not completely convinced of NE.

What do you mean you're not completely convinced of NE? Why should you be, when it's NW? What is wrong with everyone? Is it not clear that Flash, who isn't answering anymore, made a mistake with what he wrote? Just how many more posts is everyone going to waste on this?

    Don
