Choking points; every store has them. I thought a good rule of thumb to calculate it is 8x the table max. Of course you not want to go beyond half that figure if wanted to preserve the welcome mat.
All casinos have a precise set of "choke points"
Each has a set of protocols that demand that certain staff,
(Pit Boss, Table Games Manager, Shift Boss, E I T S) be notified.
The amounts that trigger these actions vary by casino.
In general, the smaller the casino the smaller the amounts.
They are: buy-in size, win (or loss) for session, Max Bet size.
I presume that you are saying that WINNING 8 times the allowable 'table max'
is choke-worthy. That is, I believe, too high a metric; and suggests that if a
player is betting black and winning $25,000 at a table with posted limits of $100
to $5,000 he "outs" himself IF s/he table hops (betting the same) at a table with
posted limits of $50 to $3,000. In the first case s/he was winning a mere 5X the
table max; but after changing tables he is winning over 8X.
On a related topic, I use a large fraction of the Table Max as an acceptable personal
maximum bet. One HALF is as high as I will go IF the heat is low, etc. I will use approx.
One THIRD if I am somewhat concerned about surveillance, etc. If I am really concerned
about heat I will drop my personal maximum bet to one QUARTER of the table max.
This is both correct and incorrect.
Buy-in size is rather irrelevant nowadays with respect to large cash sums of course, but session win/loss and Max bet size are certainly relevant. Further, it is NOT true that the smaller the casino, the smaller the amounts. I know several casinos personally that have such large limits, you'd imagine that they were resort destinations, not "middle of a cornfield" shops. The head of marketing of a very, very small casino once told me "You'd be surprised how much money actually comes through here from the locals. Some of my biggest players are guys with pig shit on their boots, wearing overalls and holes in their shirts".
Sometimes you need to go way over your suggested proportion. I was out of town playing 25-400 table max game. The nice win climaxed by 2x400 bets yielding 2 snappers bit me on the next visit. My nicely dealt 6d game went to 8 deck (nothing to do with me), and just for me, a 4/8 shoe.
