There are some good points here. Don hit it right on the nail when he said it's a matter of time though. I think time should be specified as cumulative win. Different places just have different thresholds though- generally larger stores tolerate the action better and "don't care" as much about the low to mid level stakes play. For sure you can last forever if you win like 2-5k a year in a huge store. I've knocked down 50k in a week at some stores who "didn't care" and lost 50k in a week at other stores who did care, flyered and databased my ass along with a nasty backoff. It's really a sickening feeling getting backed off at a place where you are getting destroyed and have no chance at winning your money back, but that's life. If the place is "nice" and respects your regular status, they'll let you play forever, just make it nearly impossible with 3/6 or 0.5/2 cuts. AND if you decide to tackle it and beat them with those cuts, expect to get a really nasty backoff (I actually got backed off from a comped buffet once- the seafood wasn't fresh anyways. I've also been backed off by phone or text with comps pulled, basically rendering me from executive comped suite to homeless- yes the host actually tried to get a refund from the hotel at 11pm for the suite I was staying in but was unsuccessful so I was reluctantly comped the night. There's also a lot of AP turnover so to speak, you'll see lots of counters trying to make a go at it, but they'll get tossed eventually even at tolerant joints.
I'll tell you straight up that your "regular" status is only as safe as management too. I used to be golden at a few places, up 120k cumulative win, having drinks and golfing with shift managers and casino managers. Then oops, shift manager gets sacked and goes bye bye and I'm backed off within a month.
Backoffs just come with the territory- I would actually be concerned if you don't experience a backoff eventually as it suggests your game is not strong enough.
