"Lance Humble" is no longer with us. He was Igor Kusyszyn, Ph.d
A professor at York University in Downsview (now Toronto), Canada.
His pen name was ironic. He'd was not so much humble as he was popular.
I met the Ukrainian emigre after I had earned my M.S. in Clinical Psychology.
I can still picture his happily cluttered faculty office. We chatted at length
re: gambling and I explained that I had just delivered a lecture and workshop,
(at an A.P.A. Convention), on advanced uses of the M.M.P.I. (The 555 item
"Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory." I wanted to do extensive profiling
of "Pathological Gamblers" who were "Cross-Addicted." He wanted to be the
Chairperson of my Doctoral Dissertation Committee ~ and I was excited as he
(literally) guaranteed my smooth sailing through my Doctorate.
At the time I had a teenage wife (#1 of 3) and she freaked out at the notion of
moving to Canada for a few years. Long story made short: I had to decline his offer.
Had I stayed, I’d have been in on the ground floor of Hi-Opt II, along with Julian Braun,
when Nevada (and foreign casinos) were all virtual candy stores.
