Thanks for the advice! My wife is going with me and I just don't think she would understand my losing more than 2K . I'm still trying to convince her that I actually know what I'm doing and will eventually win money IF I play enough. Funny you guys mentioned BJA - I just received it as a birthday gift yesterday!

Wives, as a rule, don't understand winning and losing. I never talk dollars with mine. She is getting much smarter on the topic though. Show her your records once a quarter or so, let her see the bumps and grinds, where the period started and where it ended. That's the beginning process. As for individual session results, lost a few bucks, made a few bucks, broke even, crushed them, got crushed, etc etc - don't give specific figures. This advice is predicated upon you actually playing a winning game. If your not, different suggestions.

    LOL,

Wifey learned years ago that should she ask me how

each trip had gone, she simply receives a response of:

"good", "very good", "excellent", "below average", or "lousy."

She never reacts to the grade I have given myself, as so to speak.

However she knows that my bankroll is kept in an F.C.U. Money

Market Account and is always above a low 6 figure threshold,

with excess cash transferred to our checking account that she

uses to dabble in E.T.F.'s as she can access the accounts on-line.

Wifey? That's pretty funny - my terminology is very similar.

Just read Chapter 13 of Don's great book BJA last night (thanks for the suggestion Tthree, thanks for the great book Don, and thanks for the birthday present wifey!). Here's what I took away from it. Early in the shoe (maybe 1 deck in or so) is the time to tolerate the worst TC without leaving the table (usually in the -1 to -1.5 range depending on penetration). Surprisingly, the later you go in the shoe, the less tolerant you should be of a negative count. As you approach the cut card, even a TC of 0 would be reason to Wong out. This surprised me greatly but I trust the math!

Reminds me of a cute and true story.
Some years back, I was playing at a $10 table, which also included an unwanted low grade counter. About mid shoe, I think, he left the table for a tactical whiz. When he returned, I was at 2 squares max bet, winning hand after hand. Served him right. I'm sure I had something caustic to say, though dont remember what.
