But moses, your average player looks at 88 as 16 which is a loser and 99 as 18 which is a winner. Most people who have not studied basic strategy would not know any better.

Somehow playing blackjack is like listening to the radio with the classic rock or old time country channel on.
After a few years blackjack play, dealer/player comments made in ignorance, are like songs that you've heard over and over and over. How many times have you been asked if you want to hit a soft 18 with a dealer 9 card up?
Occasionally a new song will play, like another player with a bet correlation, or a pit boss that's taken an interest, and I almost miss it because I've tuned out all the mindless chatter.
I know what you mean moses. I have no problem with average players other than the obnoxious ones.

If it bothers you then you should think about why you would react to their comment. When player on my table split 9/9 vs 8 would get me thinking , a good idea but risky(when i was a ploppy). Most ploppies do not do stuff like this as they are mainly flat betting with a few that parlay up a few times their bet..

Ways to deal with smartass dealers (in order of aggression):
1. Look at them like they just said something CRAZY. Don't say a word.
2. Repeat above and say "What?!" Don't phrase as a question, but more as a statement.
3. Again, look at them like they are completely insane and say "you're supposed to do that." Don't treat them like they're wrong or dumb, treat them like they're crazy. It's less personal, and more effective.
4. Get directly assertive: "I don't want your advice" "Please do not tell me how to play"
5. Get more aggressive: "Did I ask you?" "Is this your money or my money?"
6. Get very aggressive and/or personal: "Someone must not like getting tipped" "Yeah, I'll take advice from someone who makes minimum wage" "Where did you get your statistics degree?"
7. Extreme, personal aggression: "Shut the * up!" "No one cares what you think" "Just deal the cards"
I will leave the ethical decision of when to use these up to you.
