[QUOTE=KoolAid90;130000]Hey BigPlayer, ZenKinG, RollingStoned, Code Red, Tthree, Skull21, and 21forme, thanks for the tips and answering my question. I'll continue to bet small on the first hands and act accordingly to the account with proficient camo - as well as pretend that there is no one else at the table (that is unless y'all are playing with me =D ).

Never bet small only big and bigger. If you find yourself wanting to bet small, it's much better to leave the table.

Had a fellow tell me the same thing once - had a 53% chance iof winning on the first hand - the reality is that if you win 43% of the time, push 10% of the time - which happens to equal 53% - that you will lose 47% of the time.

Twisted logic, but this seemingly intelligent fellow would always bet big on first hand out of the shoe.

By the way, many of the good beginner blackjack books would be a great read; have you read any?
Norm (the creator of this forum) has a free e-book http://www.blackjackincolor.com/
Much useful knowledge backed up with math is in there, understatement
Hey Nikky_Flash! Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely lend them my ears to the fullest extent. As you can tell I'm greener than an Irish field in the wet season. I appreciate the link and the free e-book, I looked at several chapters already. I've also read BlackJack for Blood by Bryce Carlson. Any thoughts on that book? I know its recommended for more advanced counters, but I wanted the best and had the notion that with enough practice and meditation on the material, I could become more proficient. It really lured me in by the promises of accuracy and what not.

    You've been warned.

Second. You should not learn how to properly size bets, utilize basic strategy, or recall indices and insurance in the casino... Thats just foolish. Master your game on the kitchen table first. Don't worry about an "act" until your dropping pumpkin chips like its halloween. The greatest act is exactly as you are and should remain (to the eye) a ploppy. The best spend there time appearing to know nothing and losing.... until the wins start to pile up

Hey Pacman, sorry about that, I'll definitely be more discrete about the respective details on that.

"You should not learn how to properly size bets, utilize basic strategy, or recall indices and insurance in the casino... Thats just foolish. Master your game on the kitchen table first."

I also just re-read what I posted and I definitely should have taken more time to write that. I see how you interpreted that, my apologies. I should have put something along the lines of I have learned such elements of the game to a reasonable level where I can recall it on paper and perfection at home by dealing to myself. Now I am just going to Casinos to apply it in the real casino for first hand experience.

Thanks for the tips and refreshment!

Hey Jabberwocky, can you expand a little on that statement?

"Never bet small" - Do you mean that in a literal sense? As a green horn I am a sponge soaking up everything.
"Big and bigger" - Same as above, do you mean that in a literal sense?

"If you find yourself wanting to bet small, it's much better to leave the table." - My current limited bankroll suggests me to frequent to $5 tables. Then I spread my bet accordingly to the betting indices as described in the book, "Blackjack for Blood," by Bryce Carlson. What do you suggest I do?

    Thanks for the help.

Hey Freightman, thanks for the info.

What is your personal take on it? Do you follow the fellow or do you have your own skepticism?

I think Jabber was saying rather than make waiting bets find another table. The suggestion of big or bigger seems to indicate back counting but he is definitely talking about wonging out rather than betting small. Particularly good advice for a small BR. All those waiting bets are made at a disadvantage and add up to quite a drag on your EV. By only making advantage bets or near neutral edge bets there is no drag or little drag on the EV generated by your advantage bets.

    Ahh gotcha.

What about single deck with about 70% penetration?

Do you know if wonging out on single would be proficient? Unfortunately at this time I can only go to casinos on weekends (unless a trip) and on these weekends the blackjack tables are swamped. With 6 other players at the table the count can go from neg to high positive in one round. I also thought about that potentially blowing my cover. What are your thoughts?

I successfully wonged out of my first six deck game but have never done it on a single deck.

Good comments about the drag on the EV, I'm taking notes.

Wonging on SD would be a red flag imo, especially where youre playing.. Only way to get comps is to play & ask for them.

For sure, I thought so too. I would think wonging would also bring attention to Double Deck as well.

Comps, gotta get those comps!! I don't know why but a buffet comp would be like a signal of success for me. I would mark it in my log book as first time I ever got comped!
