    Eldorado Reno guard charged with second degree murder in killing of patron

    A Reno casino security guard is under arrest, accused of using excessive force against a man who died in December, police said Thursday night. Stefen Johnson, 24, is charged with second-degree murder, police said, in the Dec. 15 death of Victor Victoria-Acevedo, 23.

    To my knowledge, this is only the third time a casino guard has been charged with a serious crime in a patron abuse case in the United States. I thought the Reno Police might whitewash this. The guard enjoys the presumption of innocence just like anyone else, but the arrest is a pleasant surprise. I cannot even imagine the pressure to cover it up that the detectives and the DA's office must have faced from politicians as well as the powerful Carano family, who own the Eldorado, and other major political contributors in Reno. I don't think charges would have been filed if this had occurred in Las Vegas.
