David: Tropicana - Atlantic City
There have been posts declaring that the Tropicana in Atlantic City is not favorable for BJ play. Is it the rules, types of games, pen, heat, or maybe something else?

I am new to the game and have not played in AC, but from what I have heard, AC has exclusively large shoe games (6-8 decks) and many (all?) have no mid-shoe entry rules. This makes it a long, slow grind. Anyone have any recent intel?

It is all of the above. Pen is awful, heat is sweaty for a game that no counter should be playing. If I remember correctly you can't resplit pairs and to top it off, the comps suck.

The Tropicana has some great room rates presently, but the games are the standard 6/8 with no incentives. You certainly can split pairs and DAS is allowed. They have 4/6 games for $100 minimums....what a deal!
Surprisingly enough, there are some decent games in AC, but forget about the Trop. What I do is get a nice corner room in the north tower, then walk past the Chicken Tic-Tac-Toe to the Hilton. You can also find some good games at the Bally's Wild Wild West and other places nearby...Resorts is rumored to be giving decent pen. Tropicana is about as bad as it gets...
Weekdays you can even find some $5 tables at 8D. I have seen $10 tables of 6D during the mornings with 5/6, but you will have to find that on your own...

Yes, you can certainly split pairs but if I remember correctly you can't REsplit pairs. It's been awhile since I've been to that dump so I could be wrong.

I didn't stick around long enough to be sure. I am certain any money bet at their tables would be put to better use elsewhere.
They had a children's choir singing in the lounge on a Wednesday morning before Christmas. It was one of those bizarre moments you find only in a casino town like AC or Vegas.
As I left the parking garage they charged me for staying over 24 hours even though I was a hotel guest. If you must play the Trop, try the chicken. At least with the chicken you know what you are up against from the beginning.
