    zoomie: A Friendly Dealer

One morning recently I was playing BJ green chips heads up. Another player or two came and left, and I never objected to a new player nor did the dealer. After an hour of back and forth I was alone again and kept raising bets into a rising count. No heat at all. Trouble was, I kept getting stiffs, the dealer was getting multi-card 21s, and I'm down for the session $2K halfway through the shoe. So the count is skying, as are my bets - because I believe, and because (I thought) no one was watching - and finally I hit on a big double. Then I get a natural. Next hand the dealer busts. Suddenly a couple of young guys comes up, but without any sign from me the dealer tells them, "next shoe." When we hit the shuffle card the dealer notes, correctly, "You won your money back," and it was the end of his shift. So maybe someone was watching out for me.
