21forme: Do you have more tolerance for negative counts in a deep pen game?

Question for Don (welcome back) or anyone else who cares to comment:

I'm playing at one of my usual haunts where there are 6D (NMS) games usually with 1.5-2 decks cut off. I find a dealer cutting off just under a deck consistently. I start playing there and the count is tanking. I do the usual tricks to wong out, but shoe after shoe continues to go negative. Since the cards are deeply cut, would you hang around longer to see if it turns around? I typically wong out at -1 to -1.5 at 2 decks. Your thoughts appreciated.

I'm still away, but now have access to the Internet, if not to my book. The "When to Leave" part of Chapter 13 of BJA3 should show a difference for the optimal departure point, according to penetration, if I remember correctly.

Hopefully, if you don't have the book, someone will jump in here to help you.

As I recall, there's a difference, but it isn't great.

Not have the book? You must be kidding!
Sometimes, the problem with too big a BJ library is trying to remember where I read something, then finding it again later when I want to review a topic.

I reviewed Ch13, which has charts for 4.5/6 and 5/6, and you remember correctly - there isn't much difference. Thanks for your response.

If I find a game with deep penatration , the first time the count tanks, I'm off to the bathroom for the remainder of the shoe. Second, time I may have to step away from the table to make a phone call. If its near the end of the shoe, "This shoe's been terrible - I'll wait for the new shoe". After using all the tricks in my arsenal, you then have to take other things into considration, like how crowded the casino is, (If I give up my seat, can I sit down again in 15 minutes), how often I play here, what kind of heat am I receiving.

    Dog Hand: Dissenting Opinion...

    21forme,

Remember that the optimal departure point work Don presents in BJA3 assumes you can find the same conditions at another table after you leave this one.

In the situation you describe, the ONLY "good pen" table is the one at which you are playing: the other tables have much worse pen. In this case, I would recommend that you be much, MUCH more patient before abandoning the "good pen" dealer.

    Hope this helps!
