Depends on what you mean by "better." If you plan on changing your bets, because of using risk-averse indices, then you'll win a little more by using them. If you plan to bet the same as if you didn't use them, then you'll win a little less, but you'll lower your ROR even more.

See BJA3, Chapter 13, Part II, pp. 370-78 for a full discussion of this.

    Dear Don,

    Thanks for your reply.
So there is a trade off of EV and ROR.
I would like to know how much EV and ROR decrease in typical BJ rule and condition with same bet.

    Sincerely,

    sknnsthrm

I know people don't like answers like this, but it depends very much on your bet spread and how many indices you use, to begin with. Very few R-A indices are worth very much, with 10 v. 10 being the most important. But, you'd have to run sims for your personal style of play and bet scheme to get a definitive answer to your question.

sknnsthrm: Re: EV maximizing index VS SCORE maximizing (risk-averse) index

    Thank you, Don,

I use HILO for betting, and HiOpt1 for playing and insurance with using A-2 parameter.
    I play 2 hands.
    I bet 1 unit at TC <0 , 2 unit at 0 =< TC < 2, 10 unit at 2 =< TC < 3 , 12 unit at 3 =< TC on each one hand. My bank roll is 1200 unit.
My HiOpt1 indices range form -3 to 10.
My game's rule is 6deck, s17, DOA, DAS, RSA, split up to 4 hands,
    late surrender, pene 5/6.

In this model, how EV and ROR will change?
Since I do not have simu soft, would anyone help?
or which simu soft is recomended for calculate this?
