Greasy John: I think I was made...

I was in Vegas at the Stratosphere recently playing their DD game heads up. I usually spread 1:8 but in this session it didn't get that juicy so my spread was lower.

I'm sitting mid-table. Then a young guy, early to mid twenties, dark short hair, tan, sits down two seats to my left and asks, "Do you mind if I watch?" I say something like, "No, go ahead."

The dealer says nothing. A hand or so later I just casually look to the PC area and two suits look like they're aware of my table; nothing concrete, but just that look like they know something. So I didn't just flat bet of course. I varied my bets somewhat so that I didn't look like, "okay, now I'll flat bet."

I think this was their way of saying "we're on to you." About five hands later I got my BJ and used my BJ pays
    2 1/2:1 coupon and left.

No reason to bar, no security, no tap. There are subtle ways for a store to let you know you're not welcome.

Did it cross your mind that they were thinking about the guy watching your game? If they have mid-shoe entry, they were wondering if he might wong in. Perhaps they thought he might be your partner and could pick off the dealer's hole card and signal it to you. Or perhaps, you had a big pile of chips and they thought this guy might try to befriend and rob you. Or perhaps, this guy has some kind of history with them.
Someone sitting at a table, not playing and not really knowing the other player is suspicious.

Your insights do suggest other possibilites I had not considered, but the look and feel to me was that he was a counter catcher, or a casino "messenger". I never looked at this guy very hard, and I did not notice if he bought in after I left (I did not want to look at all concerned about his presence or behavior).
