Suffering from card playing burn out syndrome

I know this topic comes up on the message boards from time to time and I always ignored it.

But since the first of the year I've been playing at least every weekend and during the winter months made several trips out west for 5-7 days. I'm at the point right now were I'm totally tired and burned out from playing cards and need a break. This weekend I cut my trip short. I just didn't feel like playing so I came home to sit on the couch and lay on my ass for a couple of days. It's not that I've been losing in fact I've done quite well. All the travel and being alone in a casino enviroment takes a toll. I'm taking a break for a few weeks. Gonna get my boat out of the garage and do some fishing. Maybe this will help re-charge the batteries and feel motivated in a month or so.

Solo player, from both from your posts and private conversations, I know that you and I are a lot alike blackjack-wise. I think solo type players in general have a 'loner' type personality, and enjoy and tolerate being alone more than most, but that doesn't mean there aren't periods, when it gets to you. Traveling a lot and being away from home, friends and family, spending a good deal of time in hotel rooms, much like the old traveling salesman just enhances these feeling. I am lucky as I have managed to remove much of the travel from my routine and that helps me some, but still I know the periods you are going through. I have periods almost every year, usually when the weather is nice and I would rather be doing something else, almost anything else outside of a casino. Luckily for me it usually only takes a short break, a day or two out at Red Rock, or a couple days driving through the rural part of the state, seeing and experiencing new things and I am rejuvenated. Last year I had a much longer forced break of almost three months that was a hidden blessing for me as it really rejuvenated me, so I haven't had that 'need a break' period yet this year. Your post is a nice reminder to those of us solo type players that play a lot and spend a lot of time alone, not to forget to enjoy life a little more, and even schedule in some down time.

I'll bet it won't take you a month, but however long it takes, enjoy your time off.

    Solo,

I often wonder what toll back-off's-Trespasses, take on a player, psychologically, and how that affects their desire to compete and the ensuing enthusiasm level for playing,,,,,especially when one knows the real potential of future Rousting from knowing the actual situation one is in as to data bases, etc.

It seems to me it would have an impact on the player that could be substantial.

Solo, Have you tried fishing in Lake Mead. I do a morning during a week there and it helps. Of course I love Vegas anyway and don't play as much as you or KJ. I often wonder how much play will take away the great times I have. Lake Mead has excellent fishing and the striped bass are real game fish.
    Enjoy your vacation.

Time on the water always helps clear the head and makes me more balanced. I agree that getting the boat out will do you much good and fill your freezer with some tasty little fish!

I know what you mean Solo, except for me it's the opposite. I spend most of the summer months sitting in a boat and in the evenings I play blackjack to keep my brain sharp. And at my stage in the game I find blackjack very relaxing and comforting to my mind and spirit.

I've heard of other players up here, but only have met about 3-4 quality players. BTW- I think you met GWN.

P.S.- My life was recently disrupted with a 10 day stay at the hospital due to seasonal allergies. Got discharged very recently and suffering from a under stimulated brain.

burn out? yup, i can relate to that. just a casino it's self, with all the noise, force fed loud music, crowds and no really good place to sit down and relax within a relatively short distance of the casino is enough to burn one out over time.
then the plays, you patiently wait for plus ev plays with your tongue hanging out, yah finally get one and BAMM, fluctuation knocks yah for loop, lol. and then competition, yuck.
thing is just having the availability of plus ev plays, is such a rarity, such a blessing and heck you might even actually make money, lol. hard to leave and hard to stay, lol.
thing is, seems maybe burn out syndrome could get to the point where it's negative ev, i mean heck, if you do realize ev, what's it for? some of it must be for escaping the grind from time to time, float a river, catch a fish, whatever, lol.
thing is, even in that, maybe one wants to make that escape in the most efficient way, maybe timing for cammo, maybe at a time when advantage is expected to be lower than normal and your territory free of competition.
whatever, since things in casino's always change, get back in there long as that plus ev is around, cause sooner or later it'll likely vanish.
