bjplayer: too many dealer wins???
Lately I've been victimized by dealer luck. Just too many miracle 21's. I am very good at tracking cards and I noticed something very interesting. Several dealers (almost of all of them), kept getting the SAME good cards, while I was getting the SAME bad ones. For example, I kept getting the same 2 card combo of 15 vs the dealers 3 for several decks. He'd turn up the same 5 of hearts, and hit the same jack of clubs-- over and over. And of course the count was never right enough for me to hit a stiff hand.
My theory is that dealers, over the course of years, will unconscientiously shuffle the cards exactly the same producing a sequence of the same cards being dealt over and over. My counter measure is of course to move, or start changing the number of hands I play (where in essense, I am shuffling the cards).
Does it sound like my theory is sound (unconscientious)? Or do you think this is intentional on the dealers part? Meaning the dealers are "trying" to keep the cards the same when they are "set" bad, but will shuffle different (more) if the cards are "set" good. I know the first tactic used by Casino's is to change the deck when the dealer is "cold", and the players are making hands. So, is it possible that when the dealer is so-called "cold", then the cards are simply "set" good for the players? And the "dealer shuffle" will keep it good for the players until the deck is changed (or other players jump in/out of the game).

Parker: It happens
You got it right at the start of your post: "Lately I've been victimized by dealer luck."
The human mind hates randomness, and it is a natural tendency to look for patterns where in fact, none exist. Dealers are trained to use a standard shuffle specified by the casino. They are not allowed to change it at will. In addition to players entering and leaving the game affecting the distribution of cards, don't forget that you (or another player) get to place the cut card. Play variations will also affect this. Not everyone plays perfect basic strategy, to say the least.
Changing the cards to break a streak is merely superstition on the part of the pit, and is no longer done, at least not in the large corporate-owned casinos that are the norm today. Cards are changed at scheduled intervals, or when they are damaged (someone spills a drink on the table), or if they suspect someone is marking/bending cards (handheld games only).
In short, forget your theory. You have simply been experiencing a run of bad cards. It happens to all of us.

VerdugoJohn: It happens even with CVBJ
i would suggest you get CVBJ and play a lot, simulating the conditions you were playing under when you have had the run of bad luck
i do that...maybe to an extreme but as my football coaches use to say, to succeed in the game you need to do it in practice 100 time for every one you do in the game...
anyway, after a while i can tell when the dealer or i am on a rush and have a good idea of percentage wins & losses...i suggest it to you as it will help you understand the flux of the game...

fatcat519: Re: It happens even with CVBJ
I use CVBJ just about every day that I'm not playing in the casino. I can't believe the number of times the "dealer" draws to 21. I've been tempted to write to Don to tell him there must be something wrong with his random number generator. Of course there isn't anything wrong, and seeing it so often on the computer helps me accept those dealer five-card 21's against my 20 with a max bet out in the casino.
It just happens more often than we care to see.

Sorry about that. I do know the difference. They are both highly respected, but not interchangeable
